Cutting Your Rope Light
Cut your rope light to your desired length for any application.
Cut your rope light only at the marked locations on your rope light, using a pair of scissors or garden clippers. Be sure your cut is clean and vertical. Bend the rope light to the left approximately two inches from the end and trim off any excess wire that might protrude. Bend the rope light to the right approximately two inches from the end and again trim off any excess wire that might protrude.
| Important: Cutting at the marked location is critical. Not doing so will cause damage to your lights. |
Attach Power Cords And Connectors
Power cords connect your rope lights to a standard wall outlet.
Caution: Never install accessories with your rope lights plugged in.
| Connect the power connector to the power cord. Tighten the threaded jacket. |
| Slide the threaded jacket onto the rope light being connected. Push the power connector prongs into the wires on the exposed end of rope light until it stops. |
| Tighten the threaded jacket. |
Optional: For wet locations, seal the connection with PVC vinyl adhesive. |
Apply End Caps
End caps are required at the exposed end of the rope light.
| Cover the end of the rope light not attached to the power cord or power connector with an end cap. |
| Push the end caps firmly onto the exposed end of the rope. |
Optional: For wet locations, seal the connection with PVC vinyl adhesive. |
Apply Inline Splice Connectors
To connect or lengthen two pieces of rope light, use a splice connector.
| Slide the threaded jackets on each section of rope light to be connected. |
| Push the sharp pins into the wires of one section of the rope light and tighten the threaded jacket. |
| Push the sharp pins into the wires of the other section of the rope light and tighten the threaded jacket. |
Optional: For wet locations, seal the connection with PVC vinyl adhesive.
Apply Invisible Splice Connectors
To connect or lengthen two pieces of rope light with very little evidence, use an invisible splice connector.
Slip the shrink tubing over one of the sections of rope light you are joining. Push the pins of the connector into one end of the rope light. Slip the shrink tubing so it covers the connection evenly. |
Apply heat to the shrink tubing (a heat gun or hairdryer works well). This tightens the shrink tube over the splice and seals it. |
| The finished connection is barely noticeable. |
Install T Connectors
T connectors allow you to join two sections of rope lighting to a third section of rope light.
Slide the threaded jacket over the exposed end of rope light. Push the sharp pins of the T connector into the wires of the rope light until it stops. Tighten the threaded jacket. |
| Repeat these steps for the other two sides of the connector. |
Optional: For wet locations, seal the connection with PVC vinyl adhesive. |
